I have been playing instruments since the age of 8 and have been listening to jazz music since I was a wee lad. From Dizzy Gillespie to the Grateful Dead, my dad raised me on music that would shape the way I heard the world.
I chose the alto saxophone as my primary instrument in 4th grade because it was "the shiny one" and I wanted that. It turned out to be the best impulsive decision of my life as I have gone on to perform with concert and jazz ensembles to this day. Much like improv theater, there is a freeing and fun feeling of creating something new based simply on a few chords and how they progress.
Below are some performances with my group at UVA. Apologies in advance for the sound quality on some.
